For over a decade, Hudson River Trading has made a deep, sustained commitment to integrating cutting-edge AI research and infrastructure into our trading strategies. Deep learning is core to our trading, giving us a unique edge to tap into and shape the exciting innovation happening across the space. Our teams of researchers and engineers leverage the latest advances in academic research and computing to build and innovate on the most predictive automated trading systems in the world.

Meet Our Team

The nature of trading makes it an extremely challenging domain to apply machine learning. Market data contains very little signal, making it easy to overfit to noise. Our models must be robust to distributional shifts caused by a rapidly evolving world and adversarial actors who adapt to our behavior and train against our latest models. All of this must happen under ultra low-latency constraints, processing millions of bursty, irregularly spaced events in real time.

Opportunities

AI Researcher

We are hiring experienced AI researchers to accelerate the development of models that drive a significant fraction of HRT’s trading. Researchers work with minimal bureaucracy, strong independence, high GPU-to-researcher ratios, and excellent engineering support. You’ll be responsible for improving every part of our models: from featurization of data, to architecture design, to training dynamics, to how trading decisions are made.

Summer Internship: Algorithm Developer

Algorithm Developer interns are matched to a variety of teams across the firm, including HAIL, where they work on real problems and apply AI techniques to trading. Interns rotate through different groups and contribute directly to active research projects. In just five weeks, past interns have helped build models, run experiments, and explore new data.

PhD Winternship

Our PhD Winternship is a 2 week intensive program for PhD students to apply their research skills to trading. Interns work on real problems with guidance from HRT researchers. The program includes deep technical discussions, mentorship, and hands-on project work. Check back in late July when applications open.
